ON ART AND EXPERIENCE
Beauty does not ask us to see alike.
When two people stand before the same sketch, they never arrive with entirely the same experience. Each brings a distinct history of memory, attention, and feeling.
A single work may open more than one world of understanding. Such differences do not always require resolution. There is a generosity in art's ability to make room for unlike experiences without demanding that one become the only possible truth.

A sketch need not tell us who we are. Sometimes it is enough to suggest that something within us is still waiting to be discovered.
